Founded in 1910 by Edward O'Malley in Chicago Illinois, the Edward O'Malley Valve Co. (now known as O'Malley Manufacturing, Inc.) first production run was a multiplate type valve for use in boilers and steam locomotives. This multiplate type valve, as patented by Edward O'Malley, was a popular product that necessitated two production shifts to cover the demand. Other similar products were manufactured for the railroad industry and the military or, as termed during that time, the 'National Defense'. Before the founding of the O'Malley Valve Co. in 1910, Edward O'Malley, who was schooled in the 'Mechanical Arts', worked and consulted with locomotive engineers including the legendary steam locomotive engineer Casey Jones.
